Virus-Martin Shkreli

This piece uses a similar technique in creating appropriation as the Primark poster, I have used a layer of bold typography to directly label the subject “Martin Shkreli”. Martin Shkreli is a young CEO aged 32, who over a single night raised the price of AID and HIV medication from $13.50 to $750 making it impossible for those in need of the medication at a great risk. I have used a similar style of typography as Shepard Fairey, using his bold and well known type of work. His form of work is well known for symbolising self-empowerment with self-reflection globally which is why I had decided to use his work. Focusing on the element of self-reflection I had used the word “Virus” as I could use this not only creating a relation to has action, but do portray the subject himself as a virus. However though he was claimed by the ‘Daily Beasts’ to be one of the most infamous men in America, I feel that to a large audience is face is still quite unrecognizable, though this may have relation to the size of the text.
